On the web I started a contest about what is marketing, the question was In few words define, what is Marketing?

Many replied to that contest and only one has won, below I chose some of the replies for your review and comments.

Here's the answer that marketingexpert gave:
The branding of product or service around a competitive position like fastest, cheapest, highest quality, only, new, convenient, etc. and then advertising and promoting the brand and position to your target audience.

Here's the answer that love_itself gave:
The act of communicating to the prospect group of customers about the product/service that one can provide.

Here's the answer that halak_raval gave:
Selling what you do not have to some one who do not need it.

Here's the answer that vikrant_gurung gave:
To open wide of your product image

Here's the answer that pricklechime1 gave:
introducing you product to the public(market),in whatever strategy you like..

Here's the answer that bootsy gave:
Selling, whatever it is that you have.

Here's the answer that hackermen5 gave:
Marketing: this is the process of planning and executing the conception, pricing, promotion and distribution of ideas, goods and services to satisfy customers. In fewer words, it's the art of communication between the producer and the consumer.

Here's the answer that oO_lOVE_diSAStER_Oo gave:
Buying and selling.

And here is my mail to the contestants;
Marketing is a continuous process starting from creating the need to a product/service, across the product/service formation and presentation, never forgetting the pricing process upon studying the market competition and challenges, then taking into consideration Promotions and Advertising as a factor of either bringing that product/service up or down.

Marketing is an “Art” of selling the hope to others; hope that when they buy that product/service they will satisfy an embedded ego inside them. For example, marketing department at REVLON once declared that they sell the hope that a woman will become beautiful.

So the “Art” I spoke about is how to use that HOPE to develop more sales and keep good brand awareness. Marketer Halak_Raval, replied with something related to that Art, when he said that Marketing is selling what you do not have to some one who do not need it … this requires a lot of ART but it summarizes it all.

I will say Marketing is Business

Business is meeting consumer needs profitably

Marketing is knowing consumer and his needs

All other business functions are sort of fulfilment functions.

Hi to all,

I know this very late to add something for this post but it is rightly said that better late than never. In my view

" Marketing is about providing 100% solution to customers problems".
Now a days every organisation is striving hard to provide customer satisfaction alongwith gaining customer value.

Imagine u r walking on road in rainy season a car passes by your side throwing mud on your clothes. Now, the problem arises how to remove stains which are smiling on you from your shirt .The companies are smart enough to track down your problem so they are with products like RIN.

So, Marketing in simpler terms is about providing 100% solution to customers problem.

Marketing in very simple terms is the identification of a need, creating a want out of the need and then satisfying the resultant through a demand in a mutually profitable manner.
