Please help me out on procedure to open ESI account, Criteria to be met for ESI contribution, If basic salary = 6500, Then is ESI mandatory? If basic salary < 6500, Then is ESI mandatory? yes ESI is mendatory, any organisation have more than 10 employees have to registed in ESi. only those employees are not under coverage of ESI whose salary is more than 15000 & employees have more than 6500 amount can be exempted from PF only.
you can apply onlline for ESI registration or can hire a consultant also.

ESI is mandatory if the employee is having salary of less than or equal to 21000 and the establishment has 10 or more workers.
However, while counting workers only permanent employees count, not hourly/daily wage contract workers. Also till now the whole country is not covered by esi act. Only those areas notified by govt of India (ministry of Labour) is covered. The areas notified is a dynamic list and progressively newer areas are added. You can check with the esi website or nearest esi office to know if your particular area is covered.
Also, if i may add, esi service provides important health / disability / unemployment insurance. Denial of esi facility by eligible employers is not only illegal but also immoral.
